Women represent more than half of the population, but despite progress, it cannot be truly said that more than half of the normal statistical data available is representative of women. This is especially true when the geographical area of reference, such as that of a large municipality, comprises firms and businesses. The profile presents a description of Milan, based as far as possible on gender statistics. The principal intention is to understand the differences – and also the similarities – existing between the conditions of women and those of men, viewed from a variety of aspects: the family, education, work, health, participation and community safety. Milan is, in addition, compared with Italy’s other major cities.
With the “City of Women” report MeglioMilano aims to provide information that will be useful in overcoming those factors which even today penalise women, and to foster increasing gender equality.
